Project 3 Domus

The project was quite a challege for me. I had to grow upon what i have learned from the previous project, so i tried to keep the design very simple and make a good presentation of it. I tried to make it original, by using laser-cut wood on posters. I think i ahieved a good level of presentation as well as point of difference.

Project 2 Minima

This project was of great enjoyment to me. During the design i tried to learn how to design starting with some idea, but not with a shape. The idea was to have the sun all day round. During the construction i explored new materials. However, the result was not great, for eg. the posters were hard to read, the model was not of a good quality, but i had to understand it and improve them and get a better result in the next project.

Great Article

This is an article about the effects that architecture has on people. It outlines its importance to us and how we should all be educated on recognising it. It is the grandest of all artforms so therefore should be appreciated more. Whether it be loved or hated, any reaction is better than no reaction...

what do you think??

Posters again

Sorry, i have loaded the posters again becuase the original ones dont open properly so lets have another go....

Context image

Although this project was meant to be able to be moved i thought it was very important to see exactly where this was going to be situated. You would gain access from the upstairs balcony and you would be out in the open just as a rock climber would camp on the rock face

This section model gives you somesort of idea of how you would operate within this space. It also demonstrates the translucent qualities of the outer material. You can see on the left the doubleing up of space for a duel purpose.

Development concepts

As previously stated, i was looking at the ball sort of idea in the form of a collapsable ball or as ribs that fall into eachother. This turned to be need a diametre of about 4 metres which was much too big. I discovered that we need a more high space rather than a wide space as the only thing we do horizonal is sleep ;) so therefore i had too much wasted space. In the more elongated ideas, all of the space is being used as used doublely as i was saying in minimal.

Initial drawing that started Minima...

Here is a nice little drawing that really formed that basis for my minima. I looked at folding balls (as seen in the posters) but really they were too big, so i moved to a more elongated form, as you will see..

These are the final posters for Minimal
The main ideas that i pushed were the way in which space is used-- forinstance, whether it is better to have a long and skinny space or a short and fat space. I looked at circulation and how much room you need to circulate around a space. I looked at the double use of space as looked at previously so that you can minimise space this way. I also looked at essential space, optimal space and excessive space. and that prison cells fall somewhere between essential and optimal.

Progressive ideas

Here are just a couple of ideas that i came up with for Minimal. The princples begind it are the double use of space as well as making something funky out of simple blocks
